Registration is OPEN!

City Recreation Wrestling Registration is now open.   In years past registration has only been open for about a week.  This year, we have opened it yesterday and it will be open for three weeks.   Register on Trackwrestling.com or just click on this link: http://www.trackwrestling.com/registration/BasicPreReg1.jsp?tournamentGroupId=53043009  So here are the instructions:  If your wrestler is 3 years old through sixth grade and you want to participate in this winter’s Folkstyle wrestling season, you need to register by clicking the above link.  You pay online.  The link says Champions Wrestling Registration and that is the right place (Champions Wrestling Club is the volunteer organization that runs the city recreation programs for Springville and Mapleton.

If you are a 7th-9th grader and not wrestling in high school this year, then you DO NOT need to register here unless you do not live in Nebo School District Boundary.   All Jr. High Wrestlers should register directly with the Jr. High they attend (or with the Jr. High they would attend if they are home schooled or in private or charter schools).  No need to register on this link for 7th-9th graders unless you live outside of the boundary or do not want to do the Jr. High matches.  In that case, you will still register by clicking this link and sign up for Club Only when that option is given.

3 year olds through 6th graders from other cities other than Mapleton or Springville can still register here.  Both City Recreation programs are fully open to other cities as some city recreation departments do not offer wrestling as an option.

A free meal and a vote!

The USA Wrestling Utah Annual Member’s Meeting is coming up on September 25th at 7:00 PM.   The meeting is at Rio Tinto Stadium and is open to anyone.   USAWU will be providing a meal that night for free.   Champions Wrestling Club not only was the largest club in the state last year but also the largest club in the entire USA.   That is very cool.  We have some items to vote on this year and are also going to elect 4 new state board members at this meeting.  Every member coach and official has a vote at this meeting.  I would like all of our coaches and officials to please show up and vote.   We also get an extra 35 votes but each vote cast needs to be used by an separate adult.  In other words, if we want to maximize our influence at the elections, we need 35 parents who are not officials or coaches to show up to this meeting.  We get one vote for every 10 athletes in the club and yes, we had over 350 club members this year.  Please let me know if you want to take your spouse up to Rio Tinto on a romantic date by emailing me at craiglamont@me.com for RSVP.

Also the annual Utah Wrestling Hall of Fame Banquet is coming up.   All proceeds to to UVU Wrestling.   Admission is $30.00 and you can buy your tickets at www.wrestleutah.com.  The date is October 20th.

Practice has been a bit low on numbers but those who are coming are having a good time.  Fall league was a great success last night also.

Annual Summary

I haven’t made a lot of posts lately, probably because it has been a very busy coaching and traveling time.  We recently were recognized as the largest club in USA Wrestling in the entire country.  This is a very cool thing and I am very proud of so many volunteers that made this happen.  I didn’t even realize we were in the running, but we did win the award for this last year.  We also ended up with more All-Americans than any other club in the country.  We have had multiple national champions, undefeated wrestlers at national duals, Outstanding Wrestler awards at national events, and two guys who made international travel teams this year.  Congrats to Tanner Cox and Grant LaMont for making those teams.

I typically tweet at the tournaments I attend, but the cell phone isn’t working here in BAKU.  So those interested in following Grant and Team USA, will need to go to www.themat.com to follow this event.  All my videos will be updated there and hopefully on flowrestling too.  The best way to follow what is going on is to log into www.pawrvideo.com and follow the Fila Cadet Worlds video updates.

Congratulations again on being a member of Champions Wrestling Club.   Lets work together to win four more state championships, national honors, largest club award and who knows what else in the 2012-13 season!

Fall League

Fall League starts next Wednesday.  This is for 5th-12th graders.  Details are on www.wrestleutah.com.  Basically its $85.00 to compete every Wednesday and then we end with a “pre-season” state tournament.  All competitions are included in the price of entry.  All competitions will either be at UVU or at Murray High.  The $60.00 club fee for the next 12 months can be paid to me or to Diane and will cover club membership through the summer of 2013 for all except the city recreation athletes that start in October.  This is not part of City Recreation and really the only thing I do that isn’t connected to the cities.  Practice will be short and sweet every Tuesday and Thursday at my home gym for one hour each day.  You can stay after practice to drill if you want.  4:00 to 5:00 practice on those days.  Remember that to participate in the fall league you have to have a full membership or a high performance membership but DON’T BUY the membership until September 1st.  That is the new year.  It is important to know that you are not welcome to come to Fall League practices without the new membership card having been purchased.  The Fall League Coaches this year will be Bryan VanTassel and Billy Cox.  Because I am a high school coach, I can’t help with the high school athletes, but I can still coach the  Jr. High athletes.  Practices start tomorrow.  Remember that I am out of town at the World Championships in BAKU Azerbaijan and I am without a cell phone.  Please don’t call me.  I do check email once a day.  See you soon.
