Wasatch Youth & Jr. High Open
Saturday, January 9th 2010
Wasatch High School
We will be running two separate tournaments back to back. Morning: 5th-Jr. High, Afternoon: Elementary Pre K- 4th grade. The purpose of these tournaments is to give each wrestler quality matches where they are not sitting in the gym all day waiting to wrestle. ALL WRESTLERS WILL RECEIVE A MEDAL. No League card required but recommended.
Cost: $10
Format: Four man round-robin based on age and weight. All wrestlers in the 4 man bracket will wrestle each other and get 3 matches. All Wrestlers will receive a medal.
Procedure: The wrestlers’ brackets are called to the staging area then sent to a mat. The entire bracket is wrestled and wrestlers will immediately pick up medals. Since 3-4 other brackets will be on the same mat, the wrestlers will have sufficient rest time.
Wrestlers will be divided by:
Grade: Will try to keep grades together, but will only move one grade if needed.
Exception: Jr. High: 7th grader could wrestle a 9th grader
Weight: The wrestlers do not need to make a specific weight.
The wrestler will be put into a group of four wrestlers that weigh approximately the same weight. (not to exceed 5 lbs. difference in smaller wrestlers & 10 lbs in larger wrestlers) Exception: Parent/Coach approval
Ability: When possible we will try and separate the advanced and the beginner wrestler. Coaches need to determine the ability/skill of their wrestler on a scale of 1-5 (1 being a low skill/ability wrestler and 5 being a high skill/ability wrestler).

This Week’s Wrestling Schedule
Dear team,
Tons of information that needs to be read and understood. Lots of details.
Self Stats Sheet – Click Here to Download - Please print off 10 or so of these and send them with your wrestlers to every competition. They should fill them out and turn them in to a manager or coach after each match.
It is time now after six weeks on the team that we submit our goals. I would like each wrestler to submit two goals for the season. We have two months left in the season. I want the two goals to be specific and have an explanation of how they will achieve the goals. 3.5X5 index cards are best.
Registration for Salt Lake Slam ends early. Registration ends on Thursday at noon. This is not a tournament to wait on. A $25.00 late fee for onsite registration. To get into the regular tournament you will need a national card. If you are in the true beginner or the 9th grade category, you only need the state league card.
This week’s schedule is complex. Normal practice tonight. We will move one mat after practice.
Tuesday no practice. We are MOVING the wrestle till you drop for Jr. High to Spanish Fork Jr. HIgh. Maple Mountain High has a basketball game and wanted us to move this. There are six schools coming. Not lost the last two. Lots of matches. Remember that this is for 7th – 9th Jr. High only on Tuesday
Regular practice Wednesday and Thursday.
No practice on Friday. Car pools leave Memorial Hall at 5:PM for weigh ins.
Saturday AM car pool leaves at 7:AM from Memorial Hall. The more drivers the better. Remember that Saturday is a club tournament for all ages.
We want our club to work two tables at the tournament. I will pay people to do this. I need 12 volunteers (kind of a volunteer). I have $500.00 to pay out between these 12 people depending on what you do. If you are not going due to financial reasons, please sign up with me ASAP. If you want to volunteer without getting paid, all the better. Let me know.
